Giving Back is a Responsibility
We believe as leaders and creators in the NFT space that we have a shared responsibility, alongside our community, to give back. Let’s talk about our plans to do just that as we move forward!
🌱 Offsetting our carbon footprint
We will be donating a portion of our mint proceeds to offset the carbon footprint of creating our collection. This is NOT tied to achieving a specific mint level, or qualified by any quantity of the total being minted. This is simply a commitment of The Society of the Hourglass team to directly offset the impact of our mint on the environment.
Ethereum, in its current proof-of-work model, uses more energy than most consumer transactions on the internet and creates a carbon footprint that is larger than that of physical artwork. However, to put this into context, the entire Ethereum network has roughly the same carbon footprint as YouTube.
Our Commitment: For every token that is minted, there will be a corresponding contribution to a carbon offset program that covers the estimated impact.
⭐️ Spotlighting underrepresented stories
We are setting aside a portion of our mint proceeds to print and deliver additional copies (above and beyond the first-edition copies being delivered to holders) of the first narrative-driven seek-and-find book in our series to schools and other educational programs that support underprivileged children.
One goal of this program is to distribute the book — which features a diverse set of protagonists and other characters with multi-cultural histories — to people looking for those stories and examples in their schools and homes. The Society of the Hourglass will be filled with stories in which everyone can find characters to relate to!
Our Commitment: We will determine a number of extra copies to print for donation purposes after we’ve printed and distributed the exclusive first-edition Society of the Hourglass book to our holders. The additional copies will not be first-edition copies, but they will be high quality prints.
🧠 NFT exposure and education
We believe strongly that Web3 principles and innovations are here to stay. We believe our collective use of smart contracts and non-fungible tokens will expand dramatically in the next few years to a scope much greater than art, media, investment, and entertainment.
While our focus is on driving the connectivity of communities to entertainment through the Society of the Hourglass brand, we also know that we can use our books and other channels to expose parents and their children to NFTs in a simple and accessible way.
We are going to onboard the next generation into NFTs leveraging the power of education through entertainment.
Our Commitment: We will leverage a section of the book to highlight NFTs, the Society collection, and surface knowledge and resources for those interested in learning more about NFTs at any age.
